Disrupting Tradition: How Titan Casket is Changing the Funeral Industry

Did you know that the average funeral in the United States can cost between $15,000 and $25,000? This staggering amount often leaves families struggling to manage both the emotional and financial burdens of losing a loved one. In this episode of "Comforting Closure - Conversations with a Death Doula," we explore how Titan Casket is transforming the funeral industry by making high-quality caskets more accessible, customizable, and affordable.

Josh Siegel and Scott Ginsberg, founders of Titan Casket, joined us to share their journey. Titan Casket, founded in 2016, aims to address the significant financial burden of funerals by selling caskets directly to consumers. This approach not only reduces costs but also provides families with more options and transparency.

What are the main costs associated with a funeral? According to the National Funeral Directors Association, the median cost of a funeral with a viewing and burial, including a vault and metal casket, is nearly $10,0001. Additional costs such as a plot, headstone, and other services can bring the total to between $15,000 and $25,0002. Expenses typically include:

  • Basic service fees charged by funeral homes

  • Transportation of the body

  • Embalming and body preparation

  • Use of the funeral home for viewing and the funeral ceremony

  • Casket and burial vault

  • Burial plot and headstone

What is the most expensive part of a funeral? The casket itself often stands out as one of the most expensive parts of a funeral. Traditional funeral homes markup caskets significantly, with average prices hovering around $3,000. Titan Casket, however, offers high-quality caskets at around $1,500, making this significant expense much more manageable for families.

During the interview, Josh and Scott emphasized the importance of planning ahead to avoid the financial strain that often accompanies funeral arrangements. They noted that many families spend more than they budget for funerals because they are unaware of their options and feel pressured to make quick decisions.

Titan Casket addresses this issue by educating families about their rights and options. They encourage people to have conversations about their end-of-life wishes before the need arises, ensuring that decisions are made calmly and thoughtfully. This proactive approach not only helps in managing costs but also allows families to focus on what truly matters—honoring their loved ones.

This conversation reminds us of the importance of planning ahead and considering our options when it comes to end-of-life arrangements. By being informed and proactive, we can ease the financial and emotional burdens on our loved ones during difficult times. Remember, taking steps now can provide peace of mind and ensure that our final wishes are honored in a meaningful way.
